Hi all,

Just finished installing SnapCenter on a Windows Server 2012 R2 and opening the default URL, I don't know what credentials to enter? Looked for it in the documentation... tried to login with local admin and the warning I'm getting is that this user is not part of any ROLE....

Help appreciated... Smiley Happy

Hi,

I recently enabled the filestream feauture on our SQL server instance. The filestream is hosted on a dedicated lun.

This server is hosting several databases (only one has filestream configured) with a shared lun for the log files and another shared lun for data files.

After I enabled and configured the filestream the databases backup is skipped:

[09:01:01.988] [SQL-Server] Database requested has not been configured for backup.
This database is marked asSmiley Very Happyisk(s) used by this database are used by other database(s)..
Server:SQL-Server Database:databasename.
This Database will be skipped.

any ideas on how I can solve this?

Thx!

move snapvault destination using dfm

$

Hello,

We are using two HA pairs running 8.2.4P5 7-mode.

The current disk space is becoming sparse and 2 shelves of 8Tb disks have been added to the system to cope with the snapvault destinations.

The current setup is managed through DFM 5.2.0.

We added the storage config for 8.2.4 in the dfm.

What we are trying to do is to move the current snapvault destination from an aggregate to another one.

A snapmirror has been performed to recreate the snapvault destination, after the initial transfer the snapmirror relation has been broken-off.

The new destination has been defined as secondary volume within dfm

We then associated the existing primary volume to the new secondary volume.

This operation completes, with a message

"Importing backup relationship between secondary FILER2:/Vault_1 and primary FILER1:/vol1/Qtree1"

We then associate the same schedule as the existing snapvault relation

The issue is that the new snapvault relation doesn't update and the lag keeps increasing.

When trying to manualy perform an update of the relation, i got the following error message

"Could not configure ip_address_of_filer_1as defined in options ndmp.prefered_interface as the transfer interface for filer1:/vol1/qtree1: NDMP communication error: NDMP_SVS_MODIFY_RELATIONSHIP: 0x20500306 (SV NO RELATIONSHIP)"

When performing a simple snapvault update on the destination filer, the snapvault relation comes back to an updated state but as the snapshots are created by dfm, this is not a solution.

Any idea why this is happening ?

PS : I also tried to recreate the relation to a brand new volume, and in this case the dfm can update the relation without problem.

Thanks

We hae VSC 6.2.1 installed on vmware 6.0 and initiating a multi nightly backup jobs and we have no Ontap level snapshot scheduled on the VMware NFS datastore volumes.  Because we have setup those VSC backup jobs at the VMware datacenter level, we're backing up unncessary vswap file dedicated NFS datastore volumes which are being used by the ESXi hosts.  Is there a way to skip the vswap datastore volumes when I run the backup at the datacenter level?

Hi,

I know that IntelliSnap is Snapshot-copy aware solution. However, I´d like to know if we can configure tape device as disk instead of library. I have read FAQ and TR-3920 but I couldn´t find this information.

Can you clarify this to me?

Hi All,

We have a CIFS environment to each NAS filer AV scanner are connected. Malware team upgraded the software and forgot to change configuration settings on the server due to which there were 25k files got deleted. we tried to restore from the snapshot using scripts but we had an issue while running the scripts it could not identify the special charaters so we restored manually so can someone help us

Remotely passing variables to a NetApp filer for Snap Restore Command

In my files.txt i have the list of files to be restored.

I get the contents of files.txt and pass each file to be restored as a variable to the following command

snap restore [-A | -V] [-f] [-t vol | file] [-s <snapshot-name>] [-r <restore-as-path>] <vol-name> | <restore-from-path>

snap restore 7 mode

Is there an option to restore  a folder from snapshot using command line or ndmp. Instead of restoring each file from the snapshot can we restore a complete folder from snapshot.

We have mulitple shares on the volumes but there are mulitple sub folder so is there any option to restore sub folder from the snapshot using cli or any other method.

We don't have access to use level folder to modify or copy files from snapshot.

How to replace a disk from another Netapp

$

Hello Community,

we have a working Netapp Setup with 3 different size Disks. Recerntly I noticed that there is a disk failure and the system already replaced it with one of the Spare disks.

I wish to now insert a disk of the same size as spare for future. Unfortunately I only have higher range disks in stock.

Questions ,

1. I think I can add higher sized disk into spare and when one of the lower sized disks fails , it will still get replaced with the higher ones. Correct me if I am wrong. But the documentation says its possible without disturbing the RAID structure. Only drawback is that the extra space will get wasted. Thats ok with me. But please confirm that its possible.

2. Secondly I do have same sized disks as well but they are not new. They are taken out from older Netapp which is not in use anymore. So first , am I allowed to add such disks straightaway as spare in existing Netapp? If yes , will the procedure be same? Normally we just take out the failed disk and insert a new one in the same slot. And using command <disk assign disk-id> I would add the new disk to spare. Will this procedure remain same or I should be deleting existing data from the disk first? I assume there could be data on these disks, as they were in use in older Netapp. Kindly point me in right direction.

Thanks in advance.

Sachin

SnapCenter 2.0 Advanced License

$

Hello all,

I am in the middle of doing an evaluation of SnapCenter 2.0 functionality with Altavault 4.3 integration. The installation of both software products went fine. But now I'm stuck with the SnapCenter Advanced License, which is needed, among other things, for the Altavault replication.

"Cloud backup for NAS File Services and file catalog features require SnapCenter Advanced licenses, which are available for purchase separately from NetApp or a NetApp authorized reseller".

So I ordered an Advanced Promo License via our NetApp reseller, which was suggested by the NetApp Partner Solution Center EMEA. I've got a SO# and visited mysupport.netapp.com >> Products  >>   Manage Products  >>   Software Licenses. From there I am getting redirected -> "Go to https://register.netapp.com/register/getlicensefile to obtain your license". But on this page I can't select SnapCenter. Today, after one month with an open non-technical case, I've got the following answer from NetApp: "The PROMO version does not require an NLF, which is why there is no selection for it on the registration site. You will not require NLF for the promo version.". So back to square one after 6 weeks. Smiley Sad

Does anyone know, how to obtain the license and how to activate it within SnapCenter? Thanks in advance!

Best regards

Mario

altavault replication interface

Hi folks,  first time setup of altavault appliance.  I'm not sure how to designate an interface as the replication interface in AVA-400.  I have a primary interface w/ default route. a 10G interface to my backup servers.  also configured one of the 1G interfaces with a default route and thought that would be the replication interface, but all my backend traffic is going through the primary interface.  have searched the docs for a day and half now and can't glean how to designate the 1G interface as my replication interface so it sends the cloud traffic via that interface.

SnapCenter V2 Add Storage Failure

$

We are experiencing an issue with our SnapCenter 2.0 which is proving very difficult to isolate and resolve. When we attempt to add an SVM to SnapCenter we recieve the following errors

"The client and server cannot communicate, because they do not possess a common algorithm " & "Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host" depending on which TLS & Cipher configuration we have on the Windows Server - We have tried multiple configurations.

The Storage device is running ONTAP9.1P1 with only TLS.1.2 enabled and Low and Medium Security Ciphers disabled. Both host and client do have common ciphers in place. We receive the errors above regardless of whether or not we use http or https as the transport protocol. If we attempt to connect to the SVM using Snapdrive 7.1.4 t we can make a successful connection demonstating that http traffic to the SVM is possible over HTTPs from the Server with the credentials being used.

We have used Wireshark and PKTT to view network activity. Ping show IMCP packets exchange at both source and destination whereas any atttempt to add the Storage device shows zero packets either end. This implies that the issue we are seeing is not due to a Failed Handshake. if we attempt to connect to alternative devices from SnapCenter we again see no packets being sent at source of destination.

When we use an SSL Checker utility against Port 8146 (Snapcenter default) we see the following output - "No SSL/TLS server at "Server Name":8146"

When we use the same Checker utility against the RDP port we see the following C:\TEMP>testsslserver "Server Name" 3389
Supported versions:
 TLSv1.2
Deflate compression: no
Supported cipher suites (ORDER IS NOT SIGNIFICANT):
  TLSv1.2

..and a list of available Ciphers

The Snapcenter documentation shows the following at https://library.netapp.com/ecmdocs/ECMLP2522556/html/GUID-470A0EEF-EBB7-410A-A295-3A7A2C156278.html

"SnapCenter supports Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2 communication with ONTAP. You can also use TLS 1.2 communication between clients and servers"

We have a case open with support but I would like to ask the commununity about this as it is a rather obscure issue that is preventing us moving forward. Has anyone seen this or does anyone have that piece of knowledge that we lack to resolve this?

Many thanks, D

SnapCenter vs SnapManager

Now that SnapCenter has been out for awhile, I would love to hear what people think of it as opposed to SnapManager for SQL and the other SnapManager products. Does SnapCenter really make things easier, or has it been a headache and you'd prefer to go back to SnapManager? We are considering a deployment after we finish 7-mode transitions in the next few months, so I would love to hear any advice or comments!

Hi!

We have an Exchange environment protected by SnapManager Exchange..

Our Exchange DBA´s are in the process of taking out some information from the environment and are asking..

  1. If we need/would like to create several pst files from a database, is there a way to configure it so we can do them all at a time?
We would like to avoid doing them one by one

  1. When restoring a single mail it changes ”create day” to time when restore is done.
Are there any way to avoid that?
