SnapCenter Sybase Error "Unable to open input file"

Hi all,

 

we are trying to backup Sybase with the SnapCenter Plugin.

SnapCenter 4.1.1.2197

Sybase Plugin 1.0

 

We have got an local Admin which has got all environment variables for sybase and has the right to access C:\Windows\Temp but we get the following error during backup with SnapCenter:

2019-03-29T00:36:51.0000173+01:00 ERROR [pool-4-thread-29] 252 com.netapp.snapcreator.workflow.Task -(Fri Mar 29 00:36:49 2019) [syb-00012] SYBASE:RUN_CMD: Command [F:\sybase\EHD\OCS-16_0\bin\isql.exe -X -Ubackup -Pxxxxx -SEHD -w 1024 -i C:\Windows\TEMP\035wYEoE7p.sc] failed with return code 53 and message

 

When I try it manually:

F:\sybase\EHD\OCS-16_0\bin\isql.exe -X -Ubackup -Pxxxxx -SEHD -w 1024 -i C:\Windows\TEMP\035wYEoE7p.sc

Unable to open input file 'C:\Windows\TEMP\035wYEoE7p.sc'.

 

When we do it manually this way, it works:

isql.exe -X -Pxxxxx -Ubackup -SEHD -w 1024 '-iC:\Windows\TEMP\035wYEoE7p.sc'

 

Does anyone use Sybase and Windows?

What can we debug to figure out the reason for that issue?

shutdown metrocluster both sites

Hello

I have a customer who wants a complete data center relocation, involing both sites ( no failover) which run Netapp MetroCluster FC for ONTAP 9.3. Is there a special procedure for powering down both sites, meaning no switch over of services.

 

I can find quite a few documents that involes one site power down but not both.

SnapVault - Transfer failed. (Out of memory)

Recently during the nightly Snapvault I have been receiving the following error: Transfer failed. (Out of memory).

I have searched here and on the internet, there doesn't seem to be an answer. I have 5 other vaults that have no issue. 

I am running OnTap 9.2 on a FAS 2554. Any help would be appriciated.

How to convert LUN(SAN Block data) to files(NFS)?

I'm glad to write the post. and I'm newbie storage enginner. (i worked only 9months!!)

 

Anyway, I have few question. How to convert SAN Block data to NFS files?

 

Should i use NetAppXCP? or SnapCenter? or SnapMirror? or Unified Manager Migration Utility for OnCommand Unified Manager?

 

or where can i find this situation's files? anyone give me the link plz! thanks Smiley Happy

Snapcenter 4.1 Vmware vault, mirror or mirror and vault

Hello,

 

Snapcenter vmware make primary-snaphots without any problem.

Transfer to secondary crashes allways because of "another transfer is in process".

The volumes is in a "vault+mirror"-relationship.

Is this suportet or do i have do decide between vault and mirror?

snapcenter 4.1 nfs backup vmware, NON-Supported entity

    Hi to all
    for a customer demo, i prepared an snapcenter environment with netapp simulator and a nested ESX .And installed snapcenter , registered the vsphere plugin for virtual center.
    the test vms running on NFS datastore, and  i can create a resourse group for this datastore and can take backups and can restore the vms in this datastore
    But when it comes to backup invidiual vms backup with different resource group, i can create the needed resource group but when i run the backup, it gives the following error
        "Activity 'Discovering Resources' failed with error: The Resource Group contains a non-supported entity type for the backup.

"ı couldnot find any clue how to solve this,also on the netapp filer ,the following event generated"app.log.err: SNAPCENT: SnapCenter Software 4.1.1.2827: (1002) Error: Job [114] Activity [Discovering Resources] failed with error: The Resource Group contains a non-supported entity type for the backup."Any ideas???

Snapcenter 4.2 release for VMWare 6.7 update 1

Been watching since last year to get snapmanager updated so it could support vmware 6.7.1, was given info saying Decemeber 2018, then January 2019, then Q1, but haven't seen anything further at this point.  Just wondering if anyone has any information on when this might be released?

SnapCenter SQL, keep snapshot longer

We have Snapcenter setup to backup a MSSQL instance.  There is one backup that we want to keep longer than the normal retention period.  Is there any way to mark the backup as a 'keep longer'.  The reason is, there were major changes to a test database and we've been asked to restore that test database a couple times already.  We don't want the snapshot to be deleted at the end of the retention period until it's owners say all is good and then we can delete.

VSC no longer has backup VM option

Hi,

 

We have recently upgraded our Vmware environment from 5.5 to 6.5 and our ontap environment from 7 to 9.1 CDOT.

 

We used to backup VMs using VSC only.  This saved the VM to snapshot and we used snapmirror to replicate this to another site.

When i install VSC in our new environment there is now no longer an option to create backup policies or backup now on VMs.  Am i missing something or do i now need to use something like snapcenter to do this?

SnapCenter 4.1P3 - SQL Verification Always Failing

Trying this again since my last (only) post (attempt) was quickly marked as spam and subsequently deleted... going to copy pasta since I  happend to leave the tab with the post open.

 

vCenter 6.5, everything is presented via NFS.

SQL Backups are working, but verification is always failing.

 

We have 2 separate servers for offloading verification.

The run as account is admin on both servers; it is sysadmin in both SQL instances.

 

All verifications fail with essentially the same error(s.)

 

2019-05-13T05:57:56.8981181-08:00 ERROR SMCore_36898 PID=[4764] TID=[33] [Verification] Backup verification failed for 'sqlp\PRODUCTION\PHINMSG' database with below error. A database snapshot cannot be created because it failed to start. A database snapshot cannot be created because it failed to start. CREATE FILE encountered operating system error 5(Access is denied.) while attempting to open or create the physical file 'C:\scmnpt\mpdisk0326\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL14.PRODUCTION\MSSQL\Data\PHINMS_Message.mdf_MSSQL_DBCC6'. The database snapshot for online checks could not be created. Either the reason is given in a previous error or one of the underlying volumes does not support sparse files or alternate streams. Attempting to get exclusive access to run checks offline.

 

This morning, a different SQL instance had left a total of 8 orphaned volumes on the NetApp, and those 8 vols were left attached to one of the verification VMs.

I've validated NTFS permissions.

I even explicitly add the run as account with no change.

The SQL logs report the same error.

We have another identical setup in a different datacenter, using same run as account, that is successful with SQL verification and offloading.

 

I've searched and searched for what all occurs for the verification process, but I have found no documentation that clearly details the steps taken for the verification process.

 

Where do I need to look?

SnapCenter - Network Ports and protocols between elements

I am working on the implementation of SnapCenter in a segmented network with secuirty controlled boundaries and therefore need to be really clear on the ports and protocols that need to be opened between the different SnapCentre elements for it to operate.

 

I have the Snapcentre install guide and have reviewed as much information online  as possible but have a couple of things I need to clarify and hope the community can help.

 

1: Install guide infers that the Windows PLug-in requires direct access to the Vcentre server over 443. is this correct?  Seems strange when we have a Vsphere plugin to communicate with Vcentre, and Vmware tools installed. 

 

2: The install guide also states in the requirements for the Windows plug- in that "The communication path needs to be open between the SVM management LIF and the SnapCenter Server.". is this just a comment or a requirement for the windows plugin to be able to communicate withe SVM managment LIF if so on what ports?

Is it possible to resync a released TDP snapmirror relationship

There is TDP relation ship from 7 Mode system to C Mode
1) There is snapmirror realtionship established from 7 Mode to C mode on vserver 1 

2) Snapmirror was broken and completely released

3) Now created New Vserver2 on the cluster and i did a Volume Rehost from Vserver 1 to Vserver 2

4) Cutover has been failed due to netwok issue. Failed back to 7 Mode Volume.

5) Now is it possible to resync back from 7 Mode Volume to Cluster Newely created Vserver 2 without reinitilising the mirror 

Kindly suggest

SnapCenter 4.x for SQL and VSC dependencies

We are transitioning from SnapManager for SQL / Exchange / SMVI to SnapCenter.  During the transition, I was curious if SnapCenter requires VSC 7.x integration to back-up SQL DBs on VMDKs, or RDMs.  

 

I've also got Snapmanager for Exchange in the mix using RDM LUNs as well as a SQL cluster with RDM LUNs.  

I'm trying to figure out the best way to phase in SnapCenter and remove the SnapManager products with as little gaps as possible.

 

Exchange will be upgraded during this process to support SnapCenter since it's currenlty 2010.

how to deatach sql db clone

Hi

i create a clone of one Database and atached to another server. Everything is ok.

But in Snapcenter gui i dont find some deatach or unmount button.

Or it it only under source, databases. search for the clone and then only press on recycled bin on right?

normal database dont have this symbol to remove it.

Snapmirror Synchronous license - ONTAP simulator

In the ONTAP 9.5 Simulator, the Snapmirror license includes "synchronous SnapMirror".

But when I configure a synchronous relationship the error is that the source cluster is not licensed for this feature.

Is an additional license needed?

SQL Plug-In Stopped

One of our servers went down, and although we have been able to recover all DBs, I have noticed that the "plug-in" status on "SnapCenter Console" shows "stopped."

 

How do I go about re-activating this plug-in on the server - so i can return to having backups again?

autodelete snapshot after replicate

Hi,

 

we need a backup concept where there no local snapshots  remain.

 

so the source will create a snapshot with label "daily" for example, it will be replicated and once replication is completed that local snapshots will be deleted. is there any way to configure such?

SnapCenter 4.2 and GetPluginLogsZipAsync

Hi,

 

After upgrading to SC 4.2 (as well as all the plugins), I have MSSQL transaction log truncate jobs that run every 20 minutes that aren't showing as completed.  At last check, the dashboard shows 2277 running jobs.  Investigating these jobs shows that they are completing, but it looks like the thing that isn't, or isn't registering as completed, is the last step which, in the logs, shows as "GetPluginLogsZipAsync."  I assume that this is some log gathering process?  As I said before it's either never finishing or never registering itself as being completed.

 

The above is my guess as to why all these jobs still appear as "running" even though all the logs end with "completed" or "exit" or something that shows completed steps.  This problem concerns one Resource Group made up of about 13 MSSQL instances.  They're all in the same data center as the storage and the SC host.  The only job associated with this RG is a log truncate.  The job runs every 20 minutes and seemingly completes.

SnapCenter 4.2 - Data Broker migration

Hi,

 

I have migrated our SnapCenter to the Data Broker virtual appliance as instructed in https://library.netapp.com/ecm/ecm_download_file/ECMLP2858035 page 25 using the following command:

 

invoke-SCVOVAMigration -SourceSCVHost old-SCV-host-IP -DestinationSCVOVAHost new-OVA-IP -OVACredential OVA-credentials -ByPassValidationCheck -Overwrite -ContinueMigrationOnStorageError -ScheduleOffsetTime time-offset

This works but I noticed immediately  after the migration has finished, the data broker appliance runs ALL backups manually. I don't know why this happens but as you can imagine this creates quite a mess. Suddenly daily/weekly/monthly backups are trigged at the same time.

 

Any ideas why this might happen?
