Is there a way to set up mirror-snapvault fanout with SC?
i have primary volumes for production HANA nodes hosted on SVM in one cluster and all my qa/dev nodes needs to be on SVM (ans therefore for refresh purpose mirrored from primary) in another while also vaulting from primary to secondary for tape-out?

Hello,

I have a customer who is installing a new sql server, they use iSCSI and part of the configuration wizard process, the system databases have to migrate from local disk to a LUN.
But this process failes with error code: Error Code: 0x80004005

here is a complete log:

Problem Migrating NetBackup Catalog data from DataDomain to Altavault

$

Hi all,

We are in the process of converting from Data Domain to AltaVault.  I am trying to duplicate the catalog (copy 3) to the AltaVault and then make them the primary copies and the expire copy 1 from the Data Domains.

Here is the job command I am running:

D:\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\admincmd>bpduplicate -Bidfile D:\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\admincmd\Temp\bpidfile_dd160-xxxxx.txt -dstunit nbu-xxxxxxx-ddmigration-su -dp NetBackup -L D:\Veritas\NetBackup\bin\admincmd\Temp\dd160-xxxxx_log.txt

The bpidfile looks like this and seems to feed into NetBackup fine:

xxxxx.xxxxxxxxxxx.com_1471831204
xxxxx.xxxxxxxxxxx.com_1471917605
xxxxx.xxxxxxxxxxx.com_1472004004

Here is the error messages I am getting:

09/03/2016 12:25:03 - Critical bptm (pid=976) image write failed: error 2060016: operation not supported
09/03/2016 12:25:05 - Error bpduplicate (pid=8904) write host nbu-xxxxxxx.xxxxxxxxxxxxx.com: media write error (84)
09/03/2016 12:25:05 - Error bpduplicate (pid=8904) Duplicate of backupid xxxxx.xxxxxxxxxx.com_1451185204 failed, media write error (84).
09/03/2016 12:25:05 - Info bptm (pid=976) EXITING with status 84 <----------
09/03/2016 12:25:05 - Error bpduplicate (pid=8904) Status = no images were successfully processed.

Is this a permissions problem / error from the AltaVault?  I am running NetBackup as a service account on the Master and Media serves.

The only thing I can think of is that the Master server is trying to complete the commands, but it is not an allowed media server to the storage unit. I am assuming this is the issue.  I It's been a long time since I had to migrate catalog data to a new system.

VSC 6.2P2 Weirdness

Hello All,

I am performing a clean install of all the following in the order presented:

1. Windows 2012R2 VM

2. SRM 6.1.1 build 3884620

3. VSC 6.2P2

4. Deploy VASA 6.2 ova

So SRM and VSC are both running on the same server.  I was able to get everything running and I could see VSC inside vCenter.  I registered VSC to the VASA and got an error about password.  I cleared everything and it seemed to work just fine.  But when I click on the home button in vCenter the VSC extention is no longer visible.  I tried to disable the plugin and enable, still nothing.

Finally I uninstalled everything and then proceeded to clean everything up.  I tried to re-install, but I still can not see the VSC extention in vCenter.

Ideas?

thanks

NDMP Node-scoped mode with BackupExec 2015

Hi All,

I setup FAS2554 switchless cluster and enable NDMP node-scoped mode, the backup software is BackupExec2015.

I can add the Netapp as NDMP server on BackupExec server by using cluster management and backup the volume. However, it cannot backup when the cluster management failover to its partner.

Can anyone give me some hints or guide to configure NDMP with backupexec?

Thanks!!

SMBR and snapmanager\snapdrive

Hi All,

Im hoping somone can shed a little light on this. We seem to be going round in circles. NettApp themselves dont know why its happening and have punted us over to professional serveices who are equally confused.

So my dilemma,

We are trying to backup some exchange servers but are having issues at every part of setup

We have 2 domains which have a 2 way trust. The netapp is in Domain A and the  Exchange servers are in Domain B. We have managed to get snapdrive to see the storage and have got some backups although it refuses to verify this backup.

We are trying to get smbr working but when we try and mount a snapshot into snapdrive we get an error of : Aggregate (****SATA) is not in the aggregate list of vserver.

Ive found a lik to https://library.netapp.com/ecmdocs/ECMP1196912/html/GUID-5255E7D8-F420-4BD3-AEFB-7EF65488C65C.html

this details some of what may be needed but i think this would mean a complete rewrite of how our netapp is set up. Which obviously isnt feasable.

Any ideas are greatly welcomed. If you need anyfurther info or ive not made clear what im trying to do please say and i will endevoure to get additional info over.

SMO Post-Script not Working

Recently, Windows Team changed the disk drives where the Databases are allocated, to Mount Points, and now, the "Vault_the_backup" Post Script is not working (is transferring always the Root Drive instead the Mounted Drive)

Does anyone knows the modification that we need to do in the Post Script?

Thank you so much¡¡

Removing SMSP 8 with Remote BLOBs

$

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone might be able to assist.  We were using Snap Manager for SharePoint v8 to handle all backups and restores of our SharePoint 2013 environment.  We recently have been making the migration to Veeam for all of our backup/restore needs.  The migration has been fairly simple thus far; however I am now trying to figure out how to handle our SharePoint farm.

I am pretty confident that SMSP is currently using a cifs share to move larger files out of the content DB.  It has been quite some time since the SMSP installation and configuration took place but I do see a lot of data in the configured storage policy which uses the cifs share.  When I try and go to the BLOB settings, it appears that the license we had used when initially configured was a trial which has since expired.

As I can't look at the BLOB settings due to the license issue...I am not really sure how things were configured anymore.  I am able to see a lot of data on the cifs share, and within the data_platform directory, their are recent time stamps with the contents being in the GB range.  The data_extender folder has contents in it as well, but the time stamps are a couple of years old, as are the logs.

If BLOB data is stored outside of the DB in this configured Logical Device, does anyone know the best way of re-importing the data to the DB so that SMSP can be removed?

snapshot recovery

I'm attempting to grant access to all snapshots for restore purposes to an AD group that is not defined as a member in the Builtin\administrators group.

In testing, I tried builit in admins which worked but isn't desireable. I also tried Power Users and Backup Operators but this did not give access the to ~snapshots for any share.

Is there a method to grant access and modify permission without granting full administrative access. Ideally I like to crate a new Builit in group for this purpose given I can grant the desried permissions.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Sql Server Data / Log file separation -- important with Netapp storage?

$

Best practices have always recommended that sql server data and log files be kept on separate storage due to the random read/write with data files and sequential read/write with transaction log files.  Does this matter on a Netapp storage device?  The other idea was that having numerous data files on separate paths/mountpoints/LUNs was valuable for IO.  Does this matter on a netapp device?

Snapprotect 10 subscribed volume is missing

Hi Community,

yesterday I deleted some protection sets and depending volumes on our filers (primary FAS8040 and secondary FAS2554), because the job nr. within the snapshot name did not match with any job in snapprotect. So I thought it must be a fragment out of old policies.

But now I do have the problem, that snapprotect is not able to do the AuxCopy, becaus it needs the deleted volume and protection set, which is not found in OCUM 6.2.

Now I need to know, if it is possible to remove the volume information out of the dataset in OCUM and how does it work. Maybe there is an other solution to fix the problem.

There is the following Information in Snapprotect Event Details. But I do not know how to do step (1):

Snapprotect Event Code: [25:37]

Error:[Managed volume 'NAME OF THE VOLUME ON SECONDARY' of subscribed volume 'NAME OF THE VOLUME ON PRIMARY' is missing on node 'Backup'. Possible reasons include: (1) The managed volume is explicitly deleted by the user, not through a partner application invoked storage-service API call. To rectify this condition use a partner application UI to invoke the storage-service-cleanup API and the storage-service-conform APIs, first to remove this volume node member from this storage service and then to create a new protection volume as part of the storage service.

(2) The container object (aggregate/node/cluster) in which the storage object is located may be in a transient state, thus hiding the volume's presence. In this case, ensure that the containing object is online. Then wait for a refresh cycle.]].

Maybe you can give me a hint.

SnapCenter 1.1 repository

Hi all

I have some questions and doubts about sql repository

- installation guide and IMT lists this supported SQL Server versions: SQL Server 2014 or SQL Server 2012 SP2... but only this specific versions are supported or SQL Server 2014 and above or SQL Server 2012 SP2 and above ? example SQL Server 2014 SP1 or SQL Server 2012 SP3

- the embedded installation of SQL 2012 Express is not suggested for production environment but is supported by Netapp?

- why the embedded installation of SQL 2012 Express shows this version 11.0.2100.60? this is  SQL 2012 RTM !

- if I install SQL Server 2014 Standard Edition or SQL Server 2012 SP2 Standard Edition with the SnapCenter Server on the same host is it possible to protect the repository with the  "Protect-SmRepository" command? it seems to not be possible because the command try to connect to host plug-in and the result is "Unable to find any plugins on host"

- if I don't use the "Protect-SmRepository" command can I protect the repository db with a standard SQL Maintenance Plan? is this method supported?

Many thanks

Hi Techies,

We are having a volume: /vol/mir_mhd_user/ on a one of the Vfiler, Where Backup team is taking Weekely backup of it, Which is aborting automatically in the filer itself.

Unfortunately we dont have support from Netapp, Could some one please help us in resolving this issue...!!!

Note :- please find the logs in the attachment.

Backup logs shows:

dmp Sun Oct 2 16:36:58 EDT /vol/mir_mhd_user/(7) Tape_close (ndmp)

Snapshot File System Metadata

When doing a LUN level snapshot is the metadata on at the file system location of the snapshot get updated?

Specifically is the "/vol/VM_XXXX_Lun/.snapshot/smvi_XXXX_novmsnap_recent" file that exists on my filer. Should the modify date or access date get updated everytime a new recent snapshot is taken?

I understand I can get this from looking at the logs or by accessing a snapmanager tool but I would like to know if simply by looking at the file system metadata if i can get a sense of how recent the most recent snapshot actually is.

Thank you

Copy Oracle Database

Hi, you can copy the oracle volumes (solaris type) with FlexClone?
In practice we are replacing a cluster; The new cluster has two identical servers in the first cluster. For migration:
- Oracle FlexClone volumes;
- Stop Oracle Database;
- Split the clone;
- Mapping of the volumes of the new cluster;

It can 'work?
Thanks for the support.

SnapManager for Exchange 2010 - retainutmbackups option

Hello all, we're using the following command to backup our DAG daily:

new-backup -Server 'EXCH-DAG-01' -ClusterAware  -GenericNaming  -ManagementGroup 'Daily' -RetainBackups 14 -RetainUtmBackups 2 -UseMountPoint  -MountPointDir 'C:\Program Files\NetApp\SnapManager for Exchange\SnapMgrMountPoint' -RemoteAdditionalCopyBackup $False -PassiveDatabaseOnly -ActivationPreference 2 -Verify  -VerificationServer 'EXCH-01'

From my understanding, the -RetainUtmBackups 2 option will keep all the transaction logs for the last two backups which should allow me to specify an arbitrary time between the full backups to do a restore - is this correct?

I only ask as when I attempt to do this it doesn't let me, I only have the option to restore from the daily backup snapshot.

Thanks for any help.

SnapManager Hyper-V deletion of Snapshots fails

Hi everyone,

we're using SnapManager for Hyper-V 2.1.1 with SnapDrive 7.1.3 on our Hyper-V Cluster (Server 2012 R2).

Backup is working but the auto deletion of snapshots fails.

I did create a new backupset and schedules for several times but the deletion is not working. However it did work before, but I don't know when it stopped exactly. I've noticed it only because our Hyper-V CSV volume was growing more and more.

Extract of the SnapManager Log:

SnapCenter 1.1 PowerShell cmdlet install on remote host

Does anyone have instructions/info on how to install the SnapCenter 1.1 PowerShell cmdlets on a remote host, such as my laptop? I have the NetApp PowerShell Toolkit v4.3.0 installed on my workstation - though the output of Get-Module shows it at version 4.1.0, even though Windows Programs and Features lists it as 4.3.0  .... at any rate, the SnapCenter cmdlets do not appear to be contained within this toolkit, and the "SnapCenter Software 1.1 Windows Cmdlet Reference" PDF document does not provide any details on how to install them on a remote host... until I can figure out how to do this, I have to RDP into my SnapCenter server, just to run SnapCenter PowerShell cmdlets.
