Unable to Register Host Failure

Hi,

I could not register SnapCenter from VSC. I also tried to register from snapcenter but it did not work.

I have just SnapManagerSuite license on storage.

Version ;

VSC 6.2P2

SnapCenter 1.1

When I tried to add Vsphere from SnapCenter, I got no error but it is not registering VSC.

I checked logs but could not find anything related.

Thanks,

Tuncay

SnapManager Exchange 2016 reFS

Hi,

we're going to setup a new Exchange 2016 Server and I wonder if the SME 7.2 does support ReFS formatted LUNs because MS recommends this for Exchange.

Thank you

SnapCreator and Snapmirror on cDOT

$

Hi,

I am setting up SnapCreator with MongoDB on cDOT 8.3 and I have a requirement to use Snapmirror. I have to setup the SM relationships before I create the backup which is fine. However I find the SnapCreator software will only recognize the Snapmirrors existance if it is a DP type snapmirror. We use XDP for all our backups as it allows us to retain a different count of snapshots at each end; 7 at primary and 30 at destination, hence I need to use XDP. None of the videos

My question is can SnapCreator only run Snapmirror DP (and not XDP)?

If so is there a workaround for my snapshot retention scenario?

If I can't find a way around I will have to set Snapmirror OFF in the options and script the 'Post-Commands' section to ssh to the secondary and run the snapmirror update, but this really defeats the idea of SnapCreator which should be able to amange to do a Snapmirror with ZAPI calls.

Help anyone ??

Thanks!

Can't pass the license check in Single Mailbox Recovery

I installed the SMBR on a Windows 2012 R2 VM. But I'm unable to pass the license check unter About -> License Info

Tried the cluster management and node ip's unter "Storage appliancename or IP address" but I alway get the following error:

"Netapp storage appliance not found. Verify the specified storage appliance is accessible and try again"

It works with the older 7-Mode system. But because the 7-Mode system will go offline in a few month I installed now a new SMBR VM.

All the Webserver services are enabled on cluster and the vserver.

SnapProtect SVM Source and destination Question

$

I have a quick question regarding the SnapProtect/OCUM configuration. We are running a 2 node cluster soon to be 6 node cluster running CDOT 8.3, we have a single SMV and don't have any Multi-Tenancy requirements.

The SnapProtect documentation mentioned setting the Virtual Server Association and configuring the Resource Pools. Do most people configure the destination for SnapVaults to a different SVM or to the same SVM that has the primary data.

At this point the offsite backups are done to Tape via SnapProtect. With 7-mode we have a backup filer that all the vaults are SnapVaulted too, but this will be put into the cluster as part of the transition to Clustered Mode.

So rather than having 3 separate 7-mode NetApps we will have a single cluster with 6 nodes. 1 of the Aggrs will be the destination for the Vaults but just not sure if it’s better to have this in its own SVM ie SVM-DR.

Thanks

DR Snapmirror best practice with Snapmanager and VSC

$

we have an infrastructure with Netapp in two site (Primary and Dr).

The infrastructure is managed by all tool of Netapp (Snapmanager for Sharepoint, SnapManager for SQL, Snapdrive and VSC on VMWare VCenter).

In this moment Disaster Recovery with SRM is not implemented but we have all data replicated to DR site with Snampmirror.

We are going to setup SRM to automatize DR and we have some question to manage data replica between the two sites in the best way.
The snapmirror are managed by the tools (SMSP,SMSQL and VSC) and in this moment we are scheduled (SQL and VSC) 1 daily backup and for SP a backup every 2 hours. To manage RPO we must increase frequency of snapmirror. To do this what is the best solution?

We manage snapmirror creating new backup job  with the specific tool to increase frequency of snapmirror (for example hourly jobs) or we manage snapmirror for RPO directly scheduling snapmirror of volumes with Storage level?
I hope my request is clear

Thank You

Best solution to backup/restore individual VMs for Ontap8.1 7-Mode, Snapvault, and vCenter/Esxi

$

I am trying to implement a backup to disk solution for our Production environment. It comprises 1 x NetApp FAS 2040-2 with ONTAP 8.1 7-Mode (primary storage), 1 x NetApp FAS 2040-4 with ONTAP 8.1 7-Mode as a secondary storage (slow disks, only fit for backups), ESX 6.0 and vCenter 6.0. All datastores are VMFS. I am confused on what the best path is, to be able to backup to secondary storage, and recover individual VMs and if possible, single files within VMs. I want to be able to retain snapshots for 1 week, on Primary Storage, and for 4 weeks on Secondary Storage.

Virtual Storage Console is good backing up and restoring individual VMs, but it seems to require ONTAP 8.2 on Clustered mode to be able to integrate with SnapVault. So this will only help with snapshot backups to Primary Storage. We also don't seem to have the license for SMVI-Vmware. We do have licenses for Snapvault and DFM.

I have installed the NetApp Management console and OnCommand Unified Manager Core Package, and I am able to register the Primary and Secondary storage, and backup volumes to both primary and secondary locations, using Protection Policies. What I need now is to work out the way to restore individual Virtual Machines. I am confused if I should install Open Systems Snapvault and where (ESXi hosts, vCenter server?).

Are there other combinations that will be better suited for this environment? We are not able to upgrade ONTAP at the moment.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Was running VSC 6.2P2 and had the same issue. Upgraded to 6.2.1 and the problem persists.

     Failed on 'SNAPCENTER':
Activity 'Storage Discovery' failed with error: Error connecting to Host VSCSERVER. This host is not reachable
Activity 'Storage Discovery' failed with error: Error connecting to Host VSCSERVER. This host is not reachable
Activity 'Send EMS Messages' failed with error: Unable to find storage system for given resources. EMS message instead sent to the storage connection accessible by this user:svmfqdn

I was getting past this point when running SC 1.1.

Any ideas?

All,

I need to move all shares on our windows 2003 and 2008 servers to CIFS shares. What are your thoughts on how to acheive this? How do i retain file and share permissions?

Maybe create a volume, robocopy and do the CIFS share permissions one my one?

Manually delete/purge a volume snapshot from the Filer without aging/purging from SnapProtect?

$

Hi,

Every so often we want to delete a snapshot from a volume.

The volume is (for example) a NFS datastore that is backed up along with other NFS datastores in a single SP job.

- Because the volume is backed up with other volumes in the same job, we don't want to age out the particular backup job as this would delete all associated snapshots from all volumes (datsastores in this example).

Can anyone advise on the behaviour if we purge a snapshot directly from a Volume?

- Will this cause any futture issues within SnapProtect/Simpana when creating additinal backups/snaps or when the aging job runs?

Hope this makes sense without being too wordy?

Cheers,

Restore Datastore VSC+SnapCenter

$

Hi all

does someone know if it's possible to restore entire nfs datastore from a vsc+snapcenter backup job?

If I try to restore a datastore the vsc wizard says "datastore restore feature is currently not supported for the selected backup" while I can restore a datastore from a vsc only backup job.

Thanks in advance

Replace DFM behaviour

$

Hello,

I have an issue to keep the same backup way of my new CDOT cluster.

Before i did the following with DFM:

         - only 2 daily snapshots on the source volume

         - snapvault replication

         - 7 daily, 5 weekly and 13 monthly on the destination volume

DFM took in charge the extended retention at the destination based on just 2 daily source snapshots.

Now, i can't find a way to do that simply.

I know with a script i could do the job, but i have a huge environment, and to monitor and maintain it could be a nightmare.

It is a NFS infrastructure with few cifs.

Does anyone find a workaround on a similar issue ?

Thanks a lot

SnapCenter V2 Issues

$

Hi Guys,
Has anyone had much experience of this new piece of software yet? I'm just trying to set it up on one of our NetApp clusters but am having difficulties and wondered if anyone else had experienced the same issues. If you haven't then I guess I'l raise a case.

Adding hosts. When trying to add a host with the name of "hostname.back.dc2.domain.name". It goes away and can see this is a member of an Oracle RAC Cluster and lists both nodes in the cluster but neither have any plugins installed.

I go to the next step (3 - Plugins) and tick the SnapCenter plugins for both oracle and unix and go next. It then lets me finish the wizard.

I can see packets going between the SC server and the Oracle box then but shortly after this the SC Server does a DNS lookup for something that doesn't exist. It takes the entry of hostname.back.dc2.domain.name and adds the domain again at the end (hostname.back.dc2.domain.name.back.dc2.domain.name).

Meaning that it won't resolve and the addition of the server fails

The other issue is that the cluster and all servers in it are then listed in the 'Hosts' screen and even though you can select to delete them and the job says it's worked they never disappear from the 'Hosts' screen.

Cheers

SnapCenter - Auto Clone SQL-DB's failed during mount/attach disc

$

Hi together,

I've got a small problem and I need your help with an Clone job in SnapCenter this job clone some db's  on a MSSQL instance and should map

this automatically to an different MSSQL server the cloned databases. This job was still running very well and it was really helpful to have a temporally

database environment. But after an Update migration from vmware 5.5 to 6 including the migration from vSphere vCenter on Windows to vShere vCenter appliance

it's not possible to run this job successful. But other task like backup and so on works with VSV, also the connection to SnapCenter Server is OK.

We are using SnapCenter (v 1.1.02958) and on a different windows server the VSC v6.2.1.

If I run the job manually that means prepare on the netapp an new clone and present for vmware, attach in vmware and extend manually on

the virtual machine a disc from this new datastore it works without problems.

Here the failure if I run the clone job

Failed to Mount/Attach Disk:- java.rmi.RemoteException: Exception in WSClient.invoke:; nested exception is:  java.lang.NullPointerException

I'am also able to work in vSphere with the VSC for backup's but strainge is i get for one machine also a failure message if I want to

attach this machine to an existing VSC Backup job.

faultCode:Server.Processing faultString:'java.lang.RuntimeException : java.rmi.RemoteException: Exception in WSClient.invoke:; nested exception is:
java.lang.NullPointerException' faultDetail:'null'

This are the step's which i still tested.

- Restart server (destination MSSQL Server, VSC Server, SnapCenter Server)

- Reinstall the SnapCenter Add-in on the destination machine

- Release and cleanup all Clones and mounting points and so on

- Shut down the destination machine and clone this maschine to release all connection and run only this machine
  (delete the old machine)

- Recreate the Clone job in SnapCenter

but all without success :-(

Did anybody have an idea!?

Thanks a lot for your help

Michael
